“Wild Wonderful Wednesdays”.
Yes, there is such a thing as a free lunch.
Each Wednesday, the Aspen Mine Center, in partnership with local churches, clubs, agencies and community volunteers, provides a community luncheon (for optional donation) that welcomes all community members. For many, this is the only nutritious meal they have all week. This program “builds a healthy community” by enhancing neighborhood attachment, prosocial engagement, connecting clients to local resources, promoting intergenerational and cross-economic interaction and acceptance.
A comfortable dining room to enjoy a meal with old friends and make new ones
A hot, healthy lunch complete with everything from salad through dessert, including hot and cold beverages
Great food, terrific opportunities for socializing, a fun and relaxing time for all
There are no “haves and have-nots” at our lunches. Our meals are frequented by municipal and county officials, the elderly, law enforcement and firefighters, the homeless, social service agency representatives, low income families, persons with disabilities, etc.
Your ideas and thoughts are important. Chat with others tasked with making this a better place for us all to live in.
Voluntary contributions in whatever amount you can afford are appreciated
Volunteer help is always needed. Ask us how you can be of assistance. Just a couple hours of light duty helps make our community meal an even bigger success!
Currently, this program serves an average of 85 meals each Wednesday.
