Mountain After School Program
In partnership with Cripple Creek RE-1 School District, Community of Caring funds a Program Director and several part-time activity leaders to head up after school clubs at Cripple Creek-Victor High School.
Offerings include activities, skill-building, year-round tutoring, extended enrichment and social competency.
Funding also provides services from a local counseling center, A Willow Bends, specializing in substance use and abuse prevention, trauma therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy.
Aimed primarily toward at-risk students, the clubs and counseling services have saved struggling teens from becoming high school dropouts, increased awareness of the hazards of drug usage, and helped to overcome behavioral problems.
In the 2017- 2018 school year, 67 children ages 8 through 18 have participated in the After-school program; nearly 20% of the entire school population!
